Below are links to write-ups of my various trips to the Ring. The earlier reports are very sketchy, from 2000 onwards they are generally more detailed, with more photos.

Unfortunately, the video and photo ban means that there are no in-car shots from trip 30 onwards.

1998

Trip 1: October was, oddly enough, my first trip to the Ring. More of a brief Ixion trip write-up than a report on the Ring itself. Car.

1999

Trip 2: April is an equally brief write-up of another car trip, notable only for describing the classic spin-out at Brünnchen.

Trip 3: May is longer due to the fact that I took my palmtop with me and could write it up on the drive home, but still more of an Ixi trip report than a Ring one. This was my first bike trip.

Trip 4: July was a brief car one to introduce the Ring to a friend.

Trip 5: August, a week-long combined bike trip to do the Ring and then watch the eclipse. This is a length report (written up on the palmtop each evening), with lots of photographs and a detailed description of a lap.

Trip 6: August describes an unfortunately rather incident-strewn weekend, but still fun. What turned out to be my last bike trip - all further trips are car ones.

Trip 7: October was the final one of '99, and a very enjoyable one.

2000

Trip 8: April was the first one of 2000, in which Adam had a fairly bad crash. A mixture of thinking about that, a pulmonary embolism and general busy-ness at work meant that I didn't get back there again until August.

Trip 9: August made up for lost time with a 9-day long visit, notable for one of the gang crashing his car on the first day and me coming rather too close to getting involved in someone else's accident.

2001

Trip 10: April was the first of 2001, and not ideal weather to put it mildly, but we still managed to have a great time. Bit crashy, though.

Trip 11: May was just three weeks later, on the first May Bank Holiday weekend. It was dry! It didn't snow! It was fun.

Trip 12: June was mainly sunny. Fairly crashy. And a little embarrassment at Aremberg.

Trip 13: July was wholly sunny! All great fun, and notable for Helmut Dähne joining us for a drink at the Ringers dinner. :-)

Trip 14: August was best described as a mixed weekend. The fun bits were excellent, but arriving on the scene of what turned out to be a double-fatal crash at Wippermann was extremely unpleasant.

Trip 15: Mid-September was slippery. Very slippery. More slippery than I have ever known it. Even slippier than in the snow. And did I mention how slippery it was?

Trip 16: End-September on the plus side offered better weather for the most part, passenger laps in my dream car and an enjoyable chat with Sabine. On the downside, the Ring was closed for most of Sunday afternoon after a fatal accident in which some of our guys had lucky escapes.

2002

Trip 17: April was the traditional Easter start to the Ring season, and the first trip with the Porsche 968. Would you believe four whole days of dry track & sun?! A very memorable trip!

Trip 18: May was extremely wet. But I didn't mind too much. Includes some notes on the wet line from a lap in the Ring Taxi with Sabine.

Trip 19: June was a complete contrast: not only mainly sunny and dry, but with superb grip thanks, I guess, to all the rubber laid down during the 24H race. The best trip yet.

Trip 20: July was great fun at the time, but a friend was killed an hour or so after I left the track on Sunday evening. The trip report was written before I learned of his death.

Trip 21: August was an excellent one for most of us. Quite a few of us also took time on Saturday night to say goodbye to Jørund at the spot where he died.

Trip 22: August one week later was the Oldtimer Grand Prix weekend. Saturday defied the weather forecast to be mainly dry, but Sunday was as wet as promised.

Trip 23: September was about as good as they get: perfect weather, few closures and absolutely no serious crashes that I was aware of. And less than a week to wait for trip 24 ... :-)

Trip 24: September was every bit as good, and while it meant an extra day off work due to the afternoon-only sessions on Friday and Saturday, it was a much more relaxed way to do it.

Beer & Video Evening 4 - a bunch of Ringers getting together for our now traditional end-of-season beer and video fest.

2003

Trip 24½: February was a side-trip one afternoon during a weekend in Koln. The track wasn't open, but we thought it would be fun to see it in the snow.

Trip 25: Easter included the Ringers attempt at the most eccentric vehicle to be taken round the Ring: a 7-seater stretch limo.

Trip 26: June was my first trip driving the C-Car - a Golf GTi.

Trip 27: July was taking advantage of the C-Car to nip over for a single day's Ringing. My first experience of R-tyres - wow!

Trip 28: August was the Oldtimer weekend but very, very, very hot and thus a very, very, very empty track.

Trip 29: August was the DTM weekend, a week later, and thankfully cooler - though with rather a lot of closures.

Trip 30: September was apparently a UK-organised 'festival of speed'. Festival of blindness and crashing, more like.

Trip 31: November offered, against all odds, four days without rain or snow! Some dampness, some ice and a bit of fog, but four brilliant days. :-)

2004

Trip 32: March was the first of the year. Who would have expected such a luxurious combination of dry, sunny weather and empty track?! Delicious.

Trip 33: Easter was expected to be snowy, stupidly busy and crashy, but in fact was dry, empty and pretty light in crashes!

Trip 34: June was very crashy - lots of closures. And my 944 blew up again. But the rest of it was fun.

Trip 35: July/August was excellent - the first full weekend in my 944, with perfect weather and a mainly quiet-ish track.

Trip 36: August was the Oldtimer GP the following weekend. Again, a surprisingly quiet track despite the crowded car-park.

Trip 37: August was very, very wet on Saturday, with a big crash, followed by a very sunny and mad Sunday.

Trip 38: September had the worst driving I've seen yet, and hence very crashy. Not as much driving as I would have liked, but still great fun.

2005

Trip 39: Easter was the start of the new season, and a bit more interesting that I would ideally have liked ...

Trip 40: May was quite wet, but thankfully no armco-related adventures for any of the Ringers crew.

Trip 41: June was quieter than usual, with fewer Ringers than usual, but still very enjoyable - if a bit crashy.

Trip 42: July was just stunning. The best trip driving I've had for ages. And Birgy had equal fun with what is about to become her new toy ...

Trip 43: July was also fantastic. It took me a few laps to get back into the Golf groove, but once I did ... :-)

Trip 44: August was, for a change, in a temporarily acquired Z4. Most enjoyable!

Trip 45: September was rather crashy, but famous for the bicycle lap.

2006

Trip 46: Easter was the start of the new season, and just about the perfect conditions: enough rain to keep the crowds down and track empty, but in fact mostly dry track conditions. A top weekend.

Trip 47: July was accompanying the Nurburgring 700 trip organised by Circuit Days. An excellent weekend, with unbelievable weather.

Trip 48: August was a 9-day holiday: a weekend, a three-day course, two evening sessions and a second weekend. Fantastic. :-)

Trip 49: October was the last trip of the year. Two 100% dry days in October!

2007

Trip 50: Easter was an excellent weekend after a crowded & crashy start.

Trip 51: June was the first of what I hope will be my new-style 5-day trips.

Trip 52: July/August was another 5-day trip, but with a difference - the weekend was the Rad & Run am Ring.

Trip 53: August was a bijou tripette with Ringweekends to put a Ring sticker on the SLK.
