Although it's not a bad idea to take some Euros with you, you can get them while you're there provided you have either a credit card (with a PIN), a Visa debit card or any debit card with the Cirrus/Maestro symbols (usually on the reverse of the card).

With a debit card, it's usually cheaper to withdraw cash locally than to buy it in advance. If your debit card doesn't have these symbols, ask your bank if they offer this facility:


The all-important symbols for getting cash in mainland Europe

There are two local cash machines, one in Adenau and the other at the Ring museum. The latter is the nearest one:

  • Exiting the Ring, turn left at the roundabout and drive through Nurburg
  • At the T-junction, turn right
  • Stay in the right-hand lane and take the first right after the Dorint (huge white warehouse-type building on your right)
  • Entering the car-park, keep right and drive up the road
    (keeping the warehouse building - actually a go-kart track - on your right)
  • When you see the 'Eingang' sign, it's in the wall to the left:

In emergency, the Lindenhof will change English cash into Euros at a fair exchange rate. This is the restaurant almost directly opposite the BMW showroom, next to the church.
